Favorite Track: Hollow Me Out
Layover have released their highly anticipated EP, titled “Your Laughter Never Leaves.” This is the band’s first release in quite some time, after going on a brief hiatus in 2016. When I heard this EP for the first time, I was absolutely blown away and will say that it was more than worth the wait. The opening track, "Hunger Pains," has a very good vocal hook in the intro to lure the listener in. The melodies are really catchy and the upbeat instrumentation backs up the impressive vocal performance. The intro of "Coffee and Fluoxetine" provides an interesting rhythm that's a bit unique for pop punk. "Hollow Me Out" brings so much energy right off the bat. The instrumentation on here is absolutely insane and brings more to the track. The chorus on here is easily one of the best on this entire EP, with some great lead guitar lines added into it. The track is only a minute and a half long, but it's absolutely incredible and I kind of wish it was longer than it is. "Slumber" is a slower and softer track at first, but the instrumentation gradually picks up the pace and brings a lot more energy to the table as the vocals get harsher. This song is full of energy and feels slightly chaotic, yet shows so much emotion, especially in the vocals. This is definitely one of the standout tracks on the EP. The title track is pretty upbeat and has some fantastic drumming, as well as a hard hitting chorus with an amazing vocal performance that absolutely blew me away. This is an incredible track as well and a fantastic way to close out the EP. Overall, I loved this EP. It's full of variety, energy and emotion, making it a captivating listen all throughout and a huge standout in the genre.
