My Own Co-Pilot have released their debut EP, titled “Textures.”
“Exit You” starts out a bit slower, but the bass and drums stick out right off the bat, pairing up with the guitars to build up to a very hard hitting and pretty aggressive chorus. There’s another section later on in the track that’s pretty similar, showing some punk-leaning influences with faster instrumentals, louder vocals, and some more screams. “When The Missing Return” is a bit more upbeat than the opener, and brings some darker melodies in the verses. The shouted vocals come in almost unexpectedly and really grab your attention as the drums help build up that section of the song even more. On this track, you can easily hear the early post-hardcore influences in the harder instrumentals and more raw vocals.
“This Crying” is also a bit slower compared to some of the other tracks on this EP, but still hits hard, especially in the beginning with the huge drums and guitars that kick it offs, and the shouted vocals and screams fit really well with the harder instrumentals. The melodies that come in later on in the track are really catchy, and the drums are the same way, driving the rhythm till the guitars take more of the spotlight for a bit. I like the dynamics in this song, and how there are some softer and more melodic sections but also ones that are louder and slightly more aggressive, especially instrumentally. That’s also something that can be said about the final track on here, “Remembering.” The more melodic sections of the track are a lot slower, but the heavier ones are a lot more fast paced and hard hitting, especially during the intro that starts the song off with dark, chugging guitars and the chorus, where all the instruments bring a lot of energy. There are also some more harsh vocals on here, and the screams show a lot more emotion on this track. Overall, I liked this EP. I love the band incorporated a lot of influences of early emo and post-hardcore music, yet they’ve still created a sound that’s uniquely theirs. LISTEN TO THE EP HERE:
