Long Gone have released their debut EP, titled “Something Better.”
Opening track “Moving On” starts the EP off perfectly, instantly grabbing my attention with the catchy hook and chorus in the beginning. The instrumentals driving the track are just as catchy as the melodies in those hooks and choruses, and the song as a whole is extremely memorable and makes such a strong opener for the EP. Second single “September” is very similar, also bringing catchy instrumentals and a chorus bound to get stuck in your head, but is a bit more upbeat compared to that previous track. “Lobotomy” switches things up a bit, showing some slightly different influences by mixing elements of pop rock and alternative into the band’s mostly pop punk influenced sound.
Debut and lead single “Heads Down” is probably the most energetic song on this whole EP, The song structure and the songwriting overall is really good, with each section perfectly building up to the next, not to mention the whole song really lets the vocals show off. “Emerald Cities” slows things down for a few minutes. The instrumentals and vocals are both softer at first, but gradually build up to a bigger chorus with passionate performances in both aspects. Closing track “Remember” is a bit similar, and is also another ballad filled with hard hitting instrumentation and one of the most emotional and overall most impressive vocal performances on this whole EP, making a powerful ending to the release. “Something Better” is extremely memorable from start to finish, and has quickly become one of my favorite EPs in this genre that has been released this year so far. With six unforgettable tracks and an interesting sound that makes them stand out, “Something Better” is a very strong start for Long Gone and shows that they have a very promising future ahead.
