Following their 2020 debut single “Cut Me Down,” Revoid spent the first quarter of 2022 releasing a few more singles and giving listeners more glimpses of their sound. These singles led the release cycle for their long-awaited debut EP, “Sleepless Still.”
“Ruminate” is opened by the drums before the crushing guitar riffs come in (and the guitars get even more impressive in the eventual breakdown). The song blends a catchy chorus with some occasional screamed vocals throughout, and there’s plenty more of that to come on the following four tracks. “Ghost” instantly brings swift drumbeats and riffs, and overall contains some of the heaviest vocals and instrumentals found on the whole EP. This perfectly shows the aggression incorporated into the lyrics. The song seems to be about learning someone has been toxic towards you (“Toxic is as toxic does, you speak down and call it love”) and expressing the relief felt upon cutting them out of your life (“10 years just a stagnant lifetime, no regrets as I leave it all behind / Happy alone in static gloom, happy alone and thriving without you”). “Poison Saint” is quite similar to the previous track, with fast-paced instrumentals and harsher vocals, and that aspect of the band’s sound is the main focal point of this song. “Noise In My Head” is much more melodic vocally compared to the others, aside from its second verse, and brings unforgettable vocal hooks throughout (most notably over the line “I can’t hear myself, the noise in my head is way too loud, I think I’m losing my mind,” one of many lyrics on this track discussing mental illness). Closing out the EP is its first single, “Gloomsayer,” which is easily one of the most aggressive on the entire EP, once again bringing large bursts of energy through captivating guitar riffs. The lyrics express frustrations towards toxic positivity when dealing with difficult situations that life throws our way (“Holy ghost, you can’t save my soul / The roses bloom, but you will never know / Faith doesn’t make this better, I can’t outrun the rain forever"). Combining appealing hooks with brutal breakdowns, “Sleepless Still” is a terrific EP from Revoid. "SLEEPLESS STILL" IS AVAILABLE NOW. LISTEN TO THE EP HERE:
