As soon as everyone rang in the new year, Inertia started hinting that new music was on the horizon. Early February brought the release of “Hivemind,” which began the cycle for the band’s latest EP, “Memoria.”
“Arisaka” begins with some synths before the heavier instrumentation kicks in. The bass stands out in the first verse, where the vocals are more melodic and contrast from that instrumentation, and a higher part of the vocalist’s range is displayed during the song’s chorus. The singing switches to screaming in verse two, matching the instrumentals quite well before the pre-chorus and chorus return. The breakdown on this one brings the aggression back. Overall, this song is a strong example of the band’s sound and is a great choice for the opening track for this EP for that reason.
Second up is “Hivemind,” which contains an anthemic chorus and fantastic vocal performances where once again, the vocalist’s impressive range is shown. The hooks on this one - most notably during that aforementioned chorus - are extremely catchy and it’s clear why this track was picked as one of the singles. “Parallels” is next, and for the most part, this one highlights the much more melodic aspects of this EP in terms of the vocals. The bass and drums become more prominent in the mix as they drive the pre-choruses, and the vocals put on another attention-grabbing performance in the choruses, followed by post-choruses where some elements of pop shine through. Second-to-last is “Nemesis,” which opens up similarly to “Arisaka” by incorporating some synths before the ferocious riffs join in. In contrast from the previous track, this one really hones in on the band’s evident metalcore and hardcore influences. The track is filled with energy and brings many engaging vocal and instrumental performances. “Memoria” closes the EP, starting with minimal instrumentation and much softer vocals as the song prepares for its massive chorus, which brings back the heavier instrumentation, an emotive vocal performance, and some impressive hooks both vocally and instrumentally. Inertia combine an expansive range of influences throughout the four tracks on “Memoria,” making it a fascinating release. "MEMORIA" IS AVAILABLE NOW. LISTEN TO THE EP HERE:
