Cherie Amour debuted earlier this year, and they quickly made their mark on the alternative music scene with the success of singles like “Burn” and “Orlando.” Now, the band has finally released their highly-anticipated debut EP, titled “Internal Discussions.”
The EP begins with the band’s debut single, “Burn,” instantly bringing some very catchy melodies accompanied by a trap beat and the drums. Heavier guitars get added in here and there, but the chorus is really where the rock influences are highlighted. This track shows off the band’s wide range of influences very well and makes a perfect choice for both their debut single and the opener for this release. “Imposter” begins with some cleaner guitars surrounded by a lot of reverb and delay effects, followed by a simple beat driven by hip-hop and pop-influenced percussion. These instrumentals pair up with rapped vocals in the verses before another huge chorus comes in, bringing the rock and alternative elements back into the mix. The lyrics on this one really stand out as well, depicting the aftermath of a breakup (“Wish you could’ve stayed true / Now I’m sitting around, looking for a song to relate to” and “Can’t stay static when I’m running through stages”).
“A Beautiful Mess, A Perfect Disaster” is one of the most memorable songs on the whole EP, bringing immensely catchy hooks all throughout, from the hip-hop-influenced verses to the pop-punk-tinged choruses. “2NICE2SAY” starts out with synths before the trap beats and rapped vocals lead the verses once again, putting on performances that convey a lot of emotion. The lyrics of this one are told from the perspective of someone who’s in a relationship that just doesn’t feel the same anymore, and lines such as “like it’s early autumn, I can see that things are changing” and “do you even want the same thing anymore?” help tell this story very well. During the bridge, some harder-hitting guitars play over the line “it’s too nice to say that I hate you,” and this emotive section is another standout moment of the song. “Orlando” concludes the EP, and similarly to the opening track, it’s a strong single due to the fact that it encapsulates the many various styles of music that the band incorporates into their sound. The hooks on this one (especially during the anthemic chorus) are unforgettable, and the song overall brings a perfect fusion of the pop and rock elements within the band’s music. Each track on “Internal Discussions” showcases the versatility within Cherie Amour’s sound and overall, this is a phenomenal debut EP that proves just why this band is so unique and stands out so much within the scene.
