A Crash Republic have released their debut EP, titled “Homewreckers: Sweet Apathy.”
I thought the band’s debut single (which was also the lead single for this EP) was pretty good, and really liked the variety they had in store on the remaining tracks on here.
Opening up the EP is that single, “Last September,” which brings some pretty catchy melodies in the beginning and during the chorus, as well as some impressive lead guitar work around that section of the song. The raw vocals come in not long after the song starts and they fit very well with the harder instrumentals that come in during the pre-chorus. Catchy guitars drive the beginning of the second track, “Overture,” followed by some great melodies throughout the rest of the track. The vocals really grabbed my attention and showed the more punk leaning influences of the band’s sound, and those same influences are found a lot in the following track, “Misanthrope,” a more fast paced one that is full of punk energy, shown through the raw vocal and instrumental performances. Starting off the second half is the technical title track, “Sweet Apathy,” which is probably the most pop punk and easycore influenced song on here, and it’s one of my favorites on the whole EP. The melodies are incredibly catchy throughout this entire track and it’s one of the most memorable ones on the entire release for me. Second to last is “Post Summer Rain,” a pretty big standout in terms of the sound. The piano in the beginning of the track fits really well, and allows the vocals to shine a lot more. The guitars and harmonies added in bring more depth to the song as they build it up during the pre-chorus, and I loved the darker guitar riffs and pounding drums around the chorus. Closing out this EP is “Watch Your Luck,” bringing some more catchy riffs in the intro, as well as a charismatic chorus, and as a whole, it makes a pretty good final track. This EP was awhile in the making for A Crash Republic, but with all the raw emotion and energy it contains, I’d say it was worth the wait. LISTEN TO THE EP HERE:
