Following the release of their debut EP “Losing Sleep” back in 2019, Fluorescents have returned with their sophomore EP, titled “Dead-End Conversations.”
“In My Head” kicks this EP off, quickly showcasing the band’s pop punk and easycore influences through catchy melodies and instrumentation, especially during the upbeat chorus and the even catchier chorus. Their more aggressive tendencies are shown in the breakdown that happens before that chorus comes back in, as well as in another breakdown in between the bridge and final chorus, which adds some synths into the mix. “T.A.S.T” is slightly darker, and seemingly combines some emo influences with the pop punk ones. Amidst the fusion of those two genres found in this song, there’s another breakdown at the end that showcases the easycore aspects of the band’s sound once again.
“Back For More” quickly delivers catchy instrumentals and melodies in the intro and verses, leading up to another catchy chorus afterwards, as well as a guitar solo later on before that chorus returns. Contrary to what its title may imply, “Not Another Pop-Punk Song” once again focuses on the band’s pop punk influences, from the catchy guitar and bass riffs and fast-paces drums in the intro to the energetic chorus that contains one of the best vocal performances on the whole EP. Last up is the lead single “Dormancy,” a track that’s a bit more midtempo in comparison to some of the previous songs on here. The vocals stand out on here right away, the instrumentals bring a ton of energy, and overall, the performances and composition found within this song make it a memorable single and closing track. "DEAD END CONVERSATIONS" WILL BE RELEASED TOMORROW, SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2020. LISTEN TO THE LATEST SINGLE "NOT ANOTHER POP-PUNK SONG" HERE:
