Wilmette have released their latest EP, titled “Anxious Body.”
Opener and title track “Anxious Body” brings really catchy melodies right away in the intro, followed by equally as catchy riffs and emotional vocals that really show the band’s pop punk and emo influences. The instrumentals are really energetic, the clean vocals tend to be a lot more raw, and there’s even a bit of screaming added into the track, showing the band’s more aggressive tendencies. “Carol From HR” and “Paul Rutt” are both showing more pop punk influences with the catchy guitars and melodies, especially in the very memorable choruses on both tracks.
“Where I Sleep” is a little bit slower compared to the last few tracks, but brings so much emotion in the vocal performance. There’s also quite a bit of aggression in that aspect of the song, but it works so well and I love the more aggressive direction that the song goes in, at least vocally. Closing out the EP is the lead single “Winter Stay,” featuring Safe Bet, which is kind of similar to the previous track. Once again, it brings even more raw and emotional vocals, accompanied by harder hitting instrumentals that match and portray that level of emotion perfectly. The balance between those sections and the softer, more melodic ones really helps elevate the track and make it a bit different from the previous one. “Anxious Body” is a very strong EP in the pop punk genre, showing the more raw, emotional and slightly more aggressive side of that style of music, and as a whole, the release is one of Wilmette’s best ones to date.
