Follower are about to release their debut EP, titled “Against The Ropes.”
After hearing the lead single, I was quickly drawn to the band’s sound, but I didn’t expect what was to come on the rest of the EP, and was very surprised and impressed by it.
Opening track “Falling Down” starts the EP off perfectly. The huge intro has some catchy instrumentation, and the verses let the vocals truly shine as they deliver the melodies, continuing on in the chorus, where the instrumentals shine just as much. The bridge has an emotional vocal performance, and there’s more of that to come later on. Second up is the lead single “Voices,” bringing tons of energy instantly with the darker guitars and pounding drums that drive the intro. Passionate vocals provide catchy melodies during the verses and pre-chorus before a massive and memorable chorus where the vocals and instrumentals all show off. Concluding the first half is “Faded,” which starts off with more ambient guitars and softer vocals before building up to a louder and much more upbeat chorus. The mix of softer and louder sections give the song great dynamics and make it one of the standout tracks on the EP. Kicking off the second half is “Someday Soon,” which is pretty similar to the previous track. The song begins on a softer note before the pre-chorus really grabs your attention and builds up to the chorus, where the vocals get louder. Harder guitars come in during the second verse and add even more emphasis to the second chorus, and there’s a pretty impressive guitar solo before the final one. “Hurricane” is yet again pretty similar to the last two tracks. Much like the one prior, it’s much slower, and it eventually becomes a hard hitting ballad. The vocals bring some of the most unique melodies heard on the EP, and they also show a lot of emotion, especially towards the end, like “I need to take control before it’s too late.” Finishing out the entire EP is the captivating closer “Dreamer.” Like the opener, this one also shows some darker composition. The instrumentals bring lots of energy to the track, and the chorus on here has one of the best vocal performances on the whole release. Follower’s debut release is one that shows their capabilities as a band. It shows them experimenting quite a bit with different musical elements, genres and subgenres, and that experimentation and variation makes this EP as unique as it is. “AGAINST THE ROPES” Is AVAILABLE NOW.
