Earlier this year, Out Of Bloom released their new EP, “Ugly Pride.” In this Track By Track, vocalist and bassist Austin Baker gives an inside look on how each song on the EP came to be.
Austin: Shy is about the black cloud that is anxiety. It follows you everywhere and seeps into every aspect of your life. While you might be able to put on a façade that everything is as it should be, internal feelings can become physical and disrupt your sleep patterns and thought processes. This song is about living through those effects.
Austin: When you lose someone in a relationship it can feel like you are mourning their passing. And if they want to come back into your life after a dramatic exit you might find yourself coming to the realization that you don’t want to ever relive that experience again and by grabbing the metaphorical shovel you bury past with that person before they again suck the life from you.
Austin: The subject of this track is about a period in my life when many things were coming to an end. I was graduating college, my longtime band was breaking up, friends were moving on to start the next phases of their lives. During this time I lost my sense of direction. Joining Out of Bloom picked me up out of this place and gave me an outlet again to talk about the things that I usually keep bottled up. It’s about the hindsight of knowing that it was a vehicle for me to cope.
Austin: Throughout my life I have watch friends and family battle substance abuse. This song in particular is told from the perspective of watching someone you love fall into opiate addiction, watching them withdraw and itch for that fix. You can literally see that person becoming sicker and the wreckage they leave behind in the wake of their disease.

Austin: The loneliest times of life have also created the most fearless and careless type of behavior. Isolation can create extremes and I guess this song is about that kind of behavior and the lack of care you exercise and how that can create a different version of yourself when you are in that frame of mind.
