Music festival season is upon us and one of the most popular out of those (at least in the alternative music scene) is Vans Warped Tour. While there are are a lot of music festivals dedicated to alternative, rock, and heavy music, there are none quite like Warped Tour. Warped Tour isn't just an ordinary music festival. The lineup is big and extravagant, but unlike other music festivals, Warped doesn't just stay in one place. It goes all across the US. It's basically a traveling music festival and you really can't find that anywhere else. This year's Warped Tour starts on June 16th in Seattle, WA and ends on August 6th in Pomona, CA. Not sure what to bring, wear, or do? Looking for more bands to watch this summer? Looking for more information on the tour itself? Well, we've got you covered. WHAT TO BRING
WHAT TO WEAR
THE DAY OF
DURING THE FESTIVAL
What's the best advice we can give you? "Staying hydrated, having a plan of who to see and still have time for other stuff to do (time management), don't bring excessive amounts of stuff with you cause you'll be carrying it mostly all day. Keep whatever you're carrying around all day to a minimum."
"Stay safe and have fun and you'll have the best possible time at Warped Tour."
Here are some more tips: "Bring water and sunscreen."
"Bring plenty of money for water and wear sunscreen, you won't regret it." -Sonny "If you bring sunscreen or fragrance, it CANNOT be in an aerosol can! Any aerosol cans will be confiscated. Including: dry shampoo, feminine hygiene spray, perfume, sunscreen, aerosol makeup, etc. HATS. Forehead/eye sunburns = god no. Comfy shoes! A brand new pair of Vans will destroy your feet, make sure they're broken in (or even better, something more comfortable than Vans.) Bring a 32 oz (or more) water bottle! Preferably one with a pop top versus a cap. Finally: bring backup deodorant, socks, bandaids and Advil."
"Drink water. Seriously, just drink water and everything else will be okay."
"Make a list of the bands you really want to see because you can't see them all."
"Bring a bag with UNOPENED water bottles and snacks, look up what the limit is on the website as well. Bring a rag/towel because you will sweat a lot and it works as a pseudo hat in some cases. Also bring a pair of sunglasses (cheap) or they have pairs there for $5 and they help a lot. Don't push yourself. it's incredibly hot in some places like FL. Don't pass out just to see a band that you don't really care about. SUNSCREEN. Be respectful of the people around you in the crowd, don't be that guy who literally is pushing you out of the way to get to the front with his girl. Same idea goes for the pits, Disrespect your surroundings, politely."
Bring a drawstring bag or better yet, a fanny pack. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes (not sandals). SUNSCREEN.And a hat is super helpful as well. Buy the largest bottle of water you can find and put it in the freezer the night before. Take that into warped, unopened. "Bring a small towel for wiping sweat you will inevitably be drenched in. The water vendors will also let you dip your towel into their ice water and OMG that is a saving grace when its 100 degrees outside and you think you're dying. Bring plenty of cash for merch and food - more than you think you'll need so that you'll guarantee you want run out (prepare to spend a lot on water/Gatorade so you don't die). Right when you get in, run straight to the inflatable schedule and write down all the bands you want to see and what stage they're on in order of set time. Text everyone's schedule among your friends so that if (when) you split up, you know where to find each other."
"Put bottle caps in your shoes cause they take your water bottle bottle cap (depending on the venue) so it's good to have extras. IF YOU HAVE LONG HAIR, KEEP IT UNDER CONTROL! I'm sick of getting covered in other people's hair!"
"Drink water. Also, be very sure to throw on a lot of sun screen."
"Comfort over style. Don't wear an uncomfortable outfit because it's gonna make your day really unenjoyable."
"Get to the venue early. Doors open at 11am and some bands start at 11:10, 11:15 am at the earliest. You can get early entry by finding a tent outside the venue. All you have to do is donate 3 cans of food, a used (but still functional) phone/iPod OR $5 in cash. I just give them $5. This early entry line can fill up fast, but will go into the venue before the rest of the crowd. Last year in Camden, I got there early enough, they let us into the venue at like 10:30am. Once inside, they only let you so far into the venue before 11am. (Last year was the only time I'd ever been in that early.) At this point, the most you can do is buy a paper schedule for $2. This is really the superior schedule option. It gives you set times by stage, and a map with all the stages on it. I like to take pens and markers in with me. I usually color code the stages to better identify them on the map. Take note of who you want to see ASAP. PRIORITIZE. Know and accept early on there is a very good possibility you might not get to see everyone you want to see. Although with last year, the lineup/stage set up was downsized from 9/10 stages to 7, and optimized by making 3 pairs of stages: 2 Journeys Stages, 2 Monster Stages and last year's Poseidon/Cyclops Stages are this year's Hard Rock Stage/Skullcandy Stages. These stage pairings are usually side-by-side (2 Journeys Stages side-by-side, 2 Monster Stages side-by-side), making it much easier to catch bands in bulk. Even still, you will experience some difficulty catching everyone you want, unless you're like me and going to 2 or more dates."
"Bring sunblock and an empty water bottle to fill. That's really it."
"Don't buy merch first. It'll weigh you down. Be nice to merch people. Food is expensive." • Jonathan "DRINK WATER. I passed out last year and I thought i was drinking plenty. Try to refill as often as you can. Do not wear yourself out. Don't mosh at the band playing at noon unless you plan on leaving at 2. Don't get worn out. Pack a lunch. Have fun at warped tour!" -Michael "So much sun screen! Don't forget to reapply!" - Madison
