2019 has been a wild ride for musician Xander Corbett. Following a few singles in late 2018 and earlier this year, he released his latest studio album, “stitches on a broken heart,” in March.
“It’s honestly been really shocking because of all the shares it got on Twitter,” he says about the success he’s gotten from this album, “I was shocked because suddenly people I don’t have any ties to were retweeting it and my Spotify listeners spiked extremely and it’s been wild. My Twitter was on fire when the album dropped and I was like ‘What the hell is going on?’”

A few months after the release of the album, Xander released a new single titled “Company.”

“It’s mainly about being there for each other when you’re going through hard times,’ Xander explains about the song, “The cover of the single itself has a bunch of photos of me and my friends that date back to when I was a kid. It’s kind of a friendship anthem. It’s kind of more of a “thank you for being there for me” kind of thing. A lot of these people were there for me when I was going through very dark times.”

The single shows Xander going in a more pop leaning direction with his music.

“I went to the 1975’s concert, so I’ve been influenced by their recent album. I admittedly did get a bit of inspiration from Taylor Swift. Her switching from country to pop was a huge movement in the music industry, and I felt like I should try out pop because it’s something I hadn’t done before,” he says about what influenced him to go in this particular direction with the song.
“IT’S DEFINITELY WAY MORE PERSONAL.”
“With Company as well as the next album, I felt like I wrote whatever was on my mind at the time. Stitches ranges from writing in 2016 to the end of 2018. It’s all completely different, different parts of my life. The next project will be a bit messy and emotional,” Xander says, comparing the songs on his new album to his older material, “It’s definitely way more personal. With ‘stitches’ I felt like I was writing my experiences to be watered down for more relatable content, but this album is a lot more specific about everything i’ve gone through. There’s definitely a lot more pop influences, and I took some elements that are kind of reminiscent of ‘stitches’ and ‘Sky High Dreamz.’”

With new singles out now and the next album release just around the corner, what’s next for Xander?

“My music video for Company dropped on Friday, August 9th, and I had dropped ‘Take His Place,’ another song off the album on August 2nd, and then the album on September 13th. I’ll be going on a musical hiatus after, and will hopefully be back by 2021.”

XANDER CORBETT’S NEW ALBUM “BREATHE” is out tomorrow, september 13th, 2019. Listen to the latest single “take his place” here:
