INTERVIEW BY: MEG
You recently released your new EP, “Bubble.” How does it feel to finally have these songs released and what has the reaction to it been like so far?
Erin: We’ve had these songs recorded since last year, so they’ve been sitting waiting to be released for some time. It’s great to have finally released the EP and so far it’s went down incredibly well, better than we could have expected. We’re hoping that the buzz continues and brings us more fans, bigger gigs and better things. Are there any themes or messages on the EP that you were trying to convey with these tracks, and if so, what? Erin: I suppose the common theme in the songs is about the daily struggles of life and relationships. Bubble, for example, is about trying to protect yourself, putting a bubble around you to stop you from getting hurt but then missing out on chances because you’re afraid, and then Frenemies is about anxiety and about how it can always be there like an old friend you can’t get rid of. Prior to that, you released the title track and “You Said” as singles. What made you decide to release those two tracks in particular first? Erin: “You Said” for us was perhaps a bit of a turning point and took us in a slightly different direction. So we thought we’d test the waters with the track and see the reception we got before continuing to write a full EP. It got a really good reception and so we moved onto the rest of the EP. For us “Bubble” was the next obvious single choice, we’ve been told it’s annoyingly catchy so I feel like we made a good call! You’ve shared the stage with bands like Marmozets and Press To Meco. What were those experiences like and what did you learn from them? Erin: The gig with Marmozets was just before they blew up with the release of their first album. They are one of our favourite bands and were so lovely - and crazy talented of course. Supporting bands that you genuinely admire and take influence from is one of the many great things about being in a band. I think watching the likes of Press To Meco, Marmozets and recently Dreamstate you see bands who’ve been on the road for weeks, who are exhausted and are maybe playing to 30 people but they still go on stage and give it their all. I think that’s something that we always do, it doesn’t matter if there’s 2 or 200 people at your show always play like it’s Wembley! Speaking of shows, you recently did a few shows in support of your new EP. Any favorite memories in particular from these shows? Erin: We’ve played 3 shows since the release of our EP, Glasgow, Inverness and Edinburgh. Personally I was quite nervous about how they were going to go. It had been a while since we played any gigs and released any music but all 3 were incredible! I think the best part for me was seeing how many new fans we’ve gained since the release. There are a lot of new faces in the crowds and people approaching us after the gigs for a chat and it caught me completely off guard. Out of the new songs from the EP, which one has been your favorite to play live so far and why? Erin: Live I would say...Frenemies. The song has so much energy and attitude and you get lost in it when you’re on stage. What’s one thing you’re hoping to achieve with the release of this EP? Erin: We’re hoping to do a U.K. tour later in the year, and it would be cool to go to places we’ve never been before and have people come to see us!
