Youth Killed It have released their latest record, titled “What’s So Great, Britain?” The album opens up with the title track, which is pretty upbeat and overall just a fun song to listen to. It’s definitely a good choice for a lead single and opening track. “Headbutt” is a bit more energetic than the previous track, mainly instrumentally. The guitars and drums mainly drive this track, and those parts are very catchy, as well as the melodies in the chorus of this track. “Where Did I Go Wrong” is another really catchy one, and one of my favorites on this entire record, especially lyrically. The lyrics seem to talk a bit about feeling lost and trying to figure out your path in life, something that I feel many listeners could connect and relate to. “Great British Summer” is one of the biggest standouts on this record for me, as it’s a bit of a darker track and also brings some pretty impressive instrumentation, particularly the guitars and bass. “The Getaway” is pretty guitar driven and honestly, it feels like a slightly punk leaning track, and it’s also another one where I really enjoyed the chorus.
“0121” is an acoustically driven track, with some cleaner and more ambient guitars that add more throughout the song and, although I don’t have too much to say about it, I still think it’s a pretty good track. “What You’re Thinking” is one that really stands out as far as the sound goes. It’s a darker one, especially instrumentally, and has some great guitar and bass parts. It brings a lot of energy and maybe even a bit of aggression, and I love that about it. “Already Dead” contrasts a lot from the previous track, as it’s pretty happy soundins, and I think that the guitar and bass are great on this track as well. “No Money, No Monday” is another darker track that incorporates some different influences, and has some harder instrumentation. “Peaceful House” is another standout on this record, especially instrumentally. It’s very strong in that regard, as the instrumentals are a lot more prominent and really stand out. “This Sounds Cliche” is a very catchy and upbeat track, and something that really interested me on here was the spoken word section in the first verse of the track, which is another example of this band incorporating different influences into their sound. The final track on this record is “On My Own,” and this track is easily one of my favorites on the entire record. There’s so much emotion on here, not only in the lyrics and vocals, but also in the softer and slower instrumentation, like the acoustic guitar driving the song and the piano added into the mix. Overall, I thought that this record was pretty good. I like the different influences that this record includes, and think that the variety of influences is just one thing that helps this band stand out.
