Seasonal are releasing their sophomore EP, titled “Weathered.” I really enjoyed the band’s debut EP and was very excited to hear new music from the band. I thought that the songs on that debut EP made this band stand out quite a bit in the pop punk scene, and I can say the same for their sophomore effort as well.
“Strangers” grabs the listener’s attention immediately with the harder instrumentals and more raw vocals. Something else that’s notable about this track and this band’s sound in general is the unique (and yet still very catchy) melodies, shown especially during the chorus. Side note: the bridge builds up well to the final chorus, and the drumming in that section stood out to me as well. I think that this song is definitely a great choice for the opening track. “Honestly” has a lot of energy, especially in its catchy and memorable chorus, and honestly, it has some great melodies all throughout. “Drift” is a bit slower, and one of the strongest tracks on this record. The instrumentals, most notably the bass and guitar, show off a bit more in the beginning of the song and the vocals shine in the huge chorus, bringing a ton of emotion to that section of the track. “High & Dry” is another pretty catchy track with another huge chorus. While there’s not much else I can pinpoint about this track, I did really enjoy this one and it’s another favorite of mine. The EP finishes out with the track “Twelve,” and it’s a great closer. It’s another catchy one, and one where the performances from every member of this band all stand out. The guitars lead the intro and chorus, while bass and drums drive the verses. The vocals really had my attention on here as well, especially during the second verse. Overall, I really liked this EP. I think that while it incorporates some elements found on their debut, it shows a whole other side to their sound, and shows how much their sound has evolved and polished.
