Reside have released their latest EP, titled “The Light That You Saw.”
Opening track “Brevity” begins with darker guitar parts that drive the intro and verses, and it only gets bigger and better as each instrument comes in, continuing to build the song up, making it a really engaging track all throughout. Following that is “Solus,” a more energetic track compared to the first one. The vocals get louder and harsher at one point, which really grabbed my attention, and that section prepares for a chorus even bigger than the intro. The second verse in particular is another highlight, mixing cleaner and harsher vocals and showing both the more melodic and more aggressive sides of the band’s music, at least vocally. “In This Moment” is a bit darker in the beginning as well, and the performances throughout the track show so much emotion, from the instrumentals in the intro to the vocals and the chorus.
Opening the second half of this EP is one of my personal favorites on it, lead single “Replace Me.” The song is extremely catchy and memorable in every aspect and is arguably one of the most memorable tracks on this EP. “Gloom.” brings some darker instrumentals and melodies and more raw vocals that really fit well on the track, and lots of energy and emotion during the bridge. Speaking of emotion, that’s shown quite a lot leading up to the end of the closing track, “The Light That I Found.” The song builds up so well to that ending, which incorporates aggressive vocals and harder hitting instrumentals that bring so much emotion and create a powerful ending for the song and EP. Reside combine elements of various different styles of rock music for a really unique and interesting sound, shown very well throughout the six tracks this EP has to offer.
