REVIEWS
Circles have released their latest record, titled “The Last One.”
“Winter” allows each member of the band to shine and show off their individual talents. The guitar, bass, and drums all bring some fantastic parts, especially in the beginning of the song, and the vocals on this impressed me right away.
“Breaker” is one of the heavier tracks on here, for the most part. It brings in much darker guitars, a pretty aggressive intro, and even some more shouted vocals. Despite that, it has a softer chorus, as well as a softer bridge, before bringing the aggression back for a great breakdown and huge final chorus. “The Messenger” has another big final chorus, and the song quite literally ends on a high note. “Arrival” has some great dynamics, with great drums and bass building up the intro and a fantastic second verse where everything hits hard, leading up to a massive chorus. Those harder sections show the vocalist’s singing skills quite a bit, and that performance blew me away. That’s something that also happens in the following track, “Tether,” and the melodies on here are very interesting as well. “Resolution” starts out as a much softer track with ambient guitars and quieter vocals. However, the bass and drums really build the song up and do so more and more as the track goes on, and there’s a huge chorus with some great vocals and melodies. Contrasting from the previous track, “Dream Sequence” is much more aggressive. The chaotic guitars and drums drive the intro and the energy that instantly grabs the listener’s attention. It’s definitely a change of pace compared to some of these other tracks, but still a great choice for the lead single nonetheless. “Renegade” is another one of the longer tracks on the record that also starts out pretty soft, but it definitely gets bigger as it goes on, especially during the huge chorus and the second verse in particular. Vocally, there’s even some screaming added into the mix on this one as well. Lyrically, this has one of the most interesting lines on this record to me: “Is this the only thing you live by? Just keep your head above the clouds so that you won’t know, you won’t show.” “Blueprints For A Great Escape” is one of the more aggressive tracks on here, and also brings one of the biggest choruses and one of the best vocal performances on the entire record. “Alone With Ghosts” is a much softer track for a little while, but builds up gradually as the instrumentals and eventually the vocals become a bit more prominent. Sidenote: the guitar solo on here is great as well. Overall, I really liked this record. I thought that there were so many great and memorable moments to be found on so many of these tracks, and this album as a whole really impressed me. LISTEN TO THE ALBUM HERE:
