Overplay have released their debut EP, titled “The End.”
Energetic drums drive the catchy intro of “Chasing Ghosts,” followed by some dark, catchy guitars. The song also has some pretty good melodies, especially during the chorus. The bass takes the lead during the beginning of “Late Nights,” a more pop punk leaning and overall happy sounding track with a pretty memorable chorus. “Heights” is pretty similar to the track before it, being one with some more pop punk influences, as well as another solid chorus.
“The End” is more of a darker track with some pretty good melodies. The one criticism I have about this track is that I wish the vocals were a bit more prominent, as I feel like that would make those melodies stand out even more. “Good Luck, Kid.” is a track that I really enjoyed the instrumentation on and I think that, at least in that regard, this one may arguably be the strongest one on the entire EP. I love the catchy guitars and bass and the harder drums on here, but I feel like everything really kicks in during the chorus and the second verse. Closing track “The Moon & The Waves” is another huge standout. It’s a lot slower compared to the other tracks, and leans more towards alternative rock rather than pop punk. Overall, I thought that this EP was pretty good. I think the band mix alternative rock and pop punk pretty well and that for a debut release, this is a solid one. LISTEN TO THE EP HERE:
