Awake At Last have released their debut LP, “The Change.”
Hard rock is one of the main genres found in the band’s music, shown in songs like the very catchy “Dead Generation” (a personal favorite of mine off the record), the captivating and very impressive “Bigger Picture” and “Paralyzed,” and “Unobtainable,” one that allows the instrumentation to shine and also brings a memorable chorus.
Something that makes this band stand out quite a bit is their use of synths and electronics and how well they mix that with their rock leaning influences. Songs like the energetic “More Than Animals” and extremely catchy “My Enemy” are two examples of this, both showing off this blend of these genres so well. “Still Breathing” does the same thing, and also really lets the instrumentals show off, especially the drums and guitars. Some of the biggest standouts on here for me are “Rebirth,” a dark introductory track that really sets the tone for the album with charismatic, captivating vocals that are also shown on the anthemic and energetic “Welcome To Life.” Title track “The Change” is very similar to that vocally with a chorus as powerful as the intro and orchestrals that really emphasize the track, as well as a stellar feature from Ice Nine Kills vocalist Spencer Charnas. The remaining tracks are both really interesting ballads, containing passionate vocal performances, massive choruses, and that darker twist that’s a huge part of the sound that this album has. Awake At Last have created a strong debut with “The Change,” showing their cinematic, anthemic, and overall interesting rock sound. LISTEN TO THE ALBUM HERE:
