Xander Corbett has released his latest full-length album, titled “stitches on a broken heart.”
The singles he released beforehand, while sounding fairly similar to each other in regards to the overall sound, impressed me quite a bit, but the rest of this album shows that he has many more tricks up his sleeve and brings some more styles and influences into his music.
Something interesting about this album is a good amount of these songs were all ones he previously released, and all of these are tracks that show many various different sides of Xander as an artist as they incorporate new elements and influences. Quite a few of these were featured on Xander’s last release, 2018’s “Songs For The Night.” “N.G.D.A.” fuses some older influences from older folk, alternative and singer-songwriter music, and it works very well for him and fits for this track. “feelings.” is a bit similar in that aspect, and also has one of the most impressive vocal performances the record has to offer. “other half.” is a fairly upbeat track that adds some orchestrals for extra emphasis, and the piano-led ballad “done & said.” does the same thing. In addition, there are also a few other tracks on here that were previously featured on older releases or released as standalone singles. “bad boy.,” one of my personal favorites off of the record, incorporates some more indie and rock influences, while songs like “bad at love.” and the honest and heartfelt “hospital socks.” show just how well he can create songs with only his voice and one primary instrument. The newer tracks on this record include more tracks similar to those last couple of songs, all showing the singer-songwriter and acoustic side of his sound. “sunshine.” and “here comes the rain.” are both meaningful and memorable singles, “secret.” and the final single “always you.” incorporate more piano rather than guitar, and “light is coming.” kind of mixes it all together. The three remaining tracks are some more of the biggest standouts from the record. “Berlin.” is one of the most emotional ones, and also has one of the best choruses. “change.,” which features Tobias, is a well-written and powerful ballad that talks about wanting to make a difference in the world, and the title track is a captivating instrumental interlude that fits perfectly on the record. On his latest effort, Xander Corbett has once again proven his potential. “stitches on a broken heart.” shows him incorporating various different styles and influences, making an impressive and overall great record. “STITCHES ON A BROKEN HEART” IS AVAILABLE NOW.
