In Fear They Follow have released their latest EP, titled “Solace.”
The introductory track is very haunting at first but immediately draws you in as you wait for the harsher vocals and instrumentals to come in, and its overall sound really sets the tone for this EP. The aggressive vocals in “Midas” stand out instantly, and the mix of lower and higher screams in the pre-chorus show the deathcore and generally much more aggressive influences in the band’s sound. The huge chorus brings more melodic vocals with intriguing melodies that grabbed my attention even more, and the breakdown towards the end comes before a great final chorus with just as much emotion as the first one. “Erebus” begins with a huge intro that brings passionate drumming and memorable guitar riffs. The verses on here contrast from the previous track at first, as the verses on here have softer vocals, accompanied by orchestral instrumentation, and the song also contains my favorite lyrics on the EP: “Give me a reason to start again, my life is slipping through my hands. It’s like I can’t breathe, and I can barely stand, but I’ll never be free.” After those lines, the more aggressive vocals come in after that and show as much emotion as the more melodic ones do, and the instrumentals get a lot heavier and louder after that. The chorus blends clean and unclean vocals so well and is probably one of the most emotional parts of the whole song.
“Momentary” brings back the aggression right back, and seems to mix all the different elements and influences of this band’s sound, from the more melodic chorus where the drums and vocals shine to the brutal breakdown that combines the metalcore and deathcore influences. Closing out this EP is its title track, and much like the opener, the beginning of this builds up to the point where the harsher vocals and instrumentals come in. The vocals on this one stood out to me on this one as well, the guitars shine after the chorus, and the most aggressive vocals on the whole EP are found towards the end of it, before the instrumentals shine once more until the song begins to fade out. On “Solace,” In Fear They Follow have created five tracks that show off the various influences from heavier music that make up their sound and an intriguing release overall. “SOLACE” IS AVAILABLE NOW.
