Stand Atlantic have released their debut full-length album, titled “Skinny Dipping.” The album starts off very strong with the lead single “Lavender Bones,” with plenty of memorable melodies all throughout, a unique bridge, and catchy instrumentals driving the upbeat rhythm of the song. Second up is “Bullfrog,” with a hook that gets the listener’s attention instantly and a chorus with interesting melodies that show off the talent that the vocalist of the band has. Third single and title track “Skinny Dipping” is up next and has some great dynamics, with some softer verses preparing for the huge and catchy chorus.
“Speak Slow” is another pretty upbeat track that brings even more memorable melodies, and one that I can picture being a very fun song to hear live. “Cigarette Kiss” slows things down a bit, being sort of a ballad. The acoustic guitar on here is mixed with some harder instrumentation, especially when the chorus comes in, but it works well. Next up is “Lost My Cool,” the second single from this record and another slower one compared to the first couple of tracks. Much like the title track, this one also has some softer verses and another big, memorable chorus. “Toothpick” is the softest track on the record, with some simple instrumentation that helps the vocals and the overall emotion in the song really get across. “Burn In The Afterthought” brings the energy back up a bit, and hits a lot harder after the chorus. That chorus and the bridge are both a bit softer, but the bridge builds up to a huge final chorus that finishes off the song well. “Clay” is another pretty interesting track that has one of the biggest and best choruses on the entire record with a fantastic vocal performance. Hannah Hermoine from Creeper makes an appearance too, and she does a good job on her feature, her vocals fitting right in the song. As far as instrumentals go on this track, there’s some great drumming in that chorus and some impressive guitar harmonies right before the bridge. The final track on here is “Roses,” which is just as catchy and well-written as the album’s opener and makes a perfect closing track. Overall, I loved this album. Every single song is as catchy and memorable as the others and the record as a whole is one I’ve come back to for repeated listens so many times since the release. It’s one of my favorite releases of this year so far and is one I highly recommend for fans of the pop punk genre.
