REVIEWS
Lost In Separation have released their latest record, titled “Sister Moon.” The album starts off strong with the opening track, “Wasted Youth.” The clean vocals on here bring some interesting melodies to the table, but there are moments, such as the fantastic breakdown, that show more aggression. There’s another great breakdown on the following track “Windburner,” which also has a huge chorus with another great vocal performance. From the moment you hear the beginning of “Deathwish,” you can instantly tell it’s going to be a darker track, and in more ways than one. In addition to the already impressive instrumentation, you can really hear the emotion in the vocals as the singer’s performance shows him seemingly crying out for help as he screams lines like “the cycle will never end” and “there’s nothing left.”
The title track also has some more lyrics I enjoyed, like “can we rebuild this broken home and bring life into these broken bones?” and “mark my words, I will never fade away.” “Problems” has a lot of energy throughout the majority of the song, but there’s a point where the song slos down a bit for a softer and more melodic section, and “Delirium” is similar to “Deathwish,” with the intro foreshadowing that it would be another darker and more aggressive track. “Winter Sleep” and “The Endeavor” start out on a more ambient note, but build up and get more aggressive as they go on, and the emotion in those tracks shines through when they get more aggressive. “Ghosts” definitely has some aggression, but the instrumentation is more melodic and kind of contrasts with the harsher vocals, making the song stand out a bit more. “Bury Me” is probably the most melodic song on the album, and the mind-blowing vocal performance all throughout this track really allows those impressive melodies to shine. Something else that really shows through the vocal performance is emotion, and that emotion is also shown through many lyrics throughout this song, with lines like “I can’t face the darkness inside of me. I’m still sinking further, but will you forgive me?” and “I’m wasting away, is this really happening?” Overall, I liked this record. There were quite a few moments on here, especially as far as the songwriting goes, that really impressed and interested me. I think that this is a solid metalcore release that definitely stands out a bit in the genre.
