REVIEWS
City Of Tyrants have released their latest EP, titled “Revelations.”
Introductory track “The Arrival” brings some haunting piano parts and foreshadows how dark and aggressive the rest of this EP is going to be. “Insurrection” has dark, chugging guitars and fast drums driving the intro and aggressive verses, while the chorus on here brings a clean vocal performance that I loved with melodies that I found pretty catchy. “Astral Projection” is up next, and there’s so much energy on this song, especially with the once again fast paced drums. As well as that, the guitar parts are a lot more interesting, and the song has another great chorus with a cleaner vocal performance that delivers some more unique melodies. The EP reaches its midway point with “Bloodlines,” which I thought was a pretty solid track. There’s one section of this one with softer vocals and cleaner guitars, and I love how it builds up a bit more once the harder instrumentals come back in. That section is definitely a standout moment for me on the track and I found the track as a whole to be pretty good.
“Awakening” is one of the more aggressive tracks offered on this EP, with an intro that instantly brings plenty of energy, impressive guitar work, and some of the harshest vocals on the EP. “NARAKA” is also pretty aggressive and is similar to the previous track in that aspect. The song has an interesting rhythm that’s definitely different compared to a lot of the other tracks on this EP. The more melodic moments on this track are really good and the chorus is another one of the most memorable ones on the release, but when this song gets gets aggressive, it gets very aggressive. The EP closes out with “Reflections,” which is easily the most melodic song on the entire release. The vocals are surprisingly almost entirely clean, but the instrumentals are still hard hitting for most of the song, especially during the bridge, where the vocals get heavier for a bit. There are even more impressive guitars during that part of the song, right before its final chorus. Overall, I liked this EP. I think it’s a solid metalcore release with many impressive moments all throughout. LISTEN TO THE EP HERE:
