Reliance have released their self-titled debut EP.
Opener “Citadel” starts out on a more melodic note, with those vocals instantly showing so much passion and putting on an impressive performance. There’s also a bit of screaming added in, and the balance of melody and aggression shows the band’s post-hardcore influences. “Glass Castle” picks up right where “Citadel” left off, with its energy driven by faster drums and catchy guitars, and while it also starts out a bit more melodic, the band once again incorporates some aggression in the vocals, with the performance being perfectly accompanied by harder hitting instrumentals. The midpoint of this EP is “Fragile Skin,” which slows things down a little bit and is a lot more ambient and melodic at first before the bass and drums drive the pre-chorus and gradually build it up to a bigger chorus with such a strong vocal performance, followed by more aggression before the second chorus.
Second to last is the lead single “Lucid,” which leans a bit more towards the melodic hardcore side with its mix of clean and unclean vocals and softer and harder hitting sections. This song is one of the biggest standouts sound wise on this EP, as is the closing track, “Banshee.” This particular one is aggressive right off the bat, and immediately shows the band at their heaviest with some of the harshest vocals on the EP, and there are practically no clean vocals to be found on the entire track. Reliance show a variety of influences within different subgenres of hardcore, and combine those influences to create a very interesting sound within the styles of music that they’re apart of. This EP shows off that sound very well and makes a strong debut for the band. "RELIANCE" IS AVAILABLE NOW. LISTEN TO IT HERE:
