I first found out about Standing Like Statues about twp months ago with the release of their single “Skylines,” and upon listening to that track for the first time, I immediately wanted to hear more and became excited for their new EP, “Reality Checkpoint.”
The opening track “Confidence” begins with a softer intro that quickly gets a lot louder before the verses, where the song gets more upbeat. The vocals and instrumentals continuously to bring catchy composition throughout the song, and the vocals are showcased even more during the choruses and especially during the bridge, which builds up very well to the song’s ending. Second is the lead single “Skylines,” which immediately brings catchy riffs and melodies before the bass and drums get added in to drive the song’s upbeat rhythm leading up to the chorus. That chorus has some really impressive vocals that blew me away when I first heard the track, the bridge contains some soulful performances vocally and instrumentally, and those sections really stood out to me as well because of these performances.
Similarly to the previous track, “Stupid Love,” begins with a catchy hook that instantly grabbed my attention. The bass and drums drive the upbeat rhythm in the pre-chorus before a huge chorus with some very impressive vocals, and the softer bridge brings some soulful performances both vocally and instrumentally. The EP concludes very strongly with “The Best Kind Of Anxiety,” which has a very upbeat rhythm driven by instrumentals that are as catchy as the melodies all throughout the song, especially in the hard-hitting and captivating chorus. With charismatic performances and memorable composition all throughout, “Reality Checkpoint” shows why Standing Like Statues stood out to me in the first place and is a stellar sophomore EP from them. "REALITY CHECKPOINT" IS AVAILABLE NOW. LISTEN TO THE EP HERE:
