Following the release of “The Brightside” in 2018 and a few standalone singles over the past few years, All Hours are back with their latest EP, titled “Perspectives.”
The opening track, “Downward,” starts on a much more aggressive note, especially vocally, while the pre-chorus and chorus contrast quite a bit, showcasing a more melodic performance. The instrumentation (most notably the drumming) brings plenty of energy throughout the track, and speaking of the instrumentation, the lead guitar delivers a very catchy solo during the bridge. Overall, the song fuses together influences of pop-punk, alternative rock, and post-hardcore, and showcases what listeners can expect from the four tracks that follow.
Second up is the EP’s title track, “Perspectives,” which is driven by catchy instrumentation leading up to the energetic chorus. The pop-punk influences really shine through on this one, between those instrumentals and the captivating vocals (especially in the bridge). “Black Rose” opens up with a huge intro before the drums and bass build the song up to its catchy chorus, where the vocals really stand out and put on an impressive performance. Those vocals add a bit of aggression in the bridge, and the keys and synths heard in the intro make another appearance during the final chorus.
“Green Eyes” brings memorable hooks and instrumentals in its intro, and those make a return in the chorus. The instrumentals bring plenty of energy all throughout the song, and the drums and guitars in particular really stand out. This song precedes the EP’s closing track, “Before I Go,” and this one is much slower than the previous four tracks. At first, the instrumentation is more laid-back, with an acoustic guitar and some subtle piano driving the rhythm, but eventually, the drums and electric guitar join in to help lead the bridge and deliver a hard-hitting final chorus and outro.
With “Perspectives,” All Hours merges together elements of pop-punk, alternative rock, and a little bit of post-hardcore to create an enjoyable EP that showcases the versatility within their sound.
