Just over a year ago, Villain Of The Story unveiled their third album, “Ashes,” along with the instrumental versions of the songs found on that record. To wrap up 2021, the Minneapolis, Minnesota-based group have dropped a brand new single, titled “Losing Control.”
The arena-ready intro precedes the verses, where the bass and drums are the more prominent instruments as they primarily drive the rhythm of the first two sections of the song. A very catchy pre-chorus leads up to a huge chorus, where the vocals offer an attention-grabbing performance. The drums become more dynamic during the second verse, and the synths during that section were a nice addition. Chugging guitar riffs lead another highlight of the song, the second pre-chorus, which contains an emotive vocal performance over the line “I won’t let it consume me, I need to get out of this nightmare.” The breakdown and low screams found within the bridge show the band tracing back to their heavier roots a little bit before the chorus comes back in for the last time. Lyrically, this track is clearly centered around mental health, and more specifically, it explains feeling stuck in a dark headspace (“The walls are closing in again, so claustrophobic as I’m trapped in my head” and “It’s sinking in, I’m lower than I’ve ever been”) and wanting to find a way out of that place (“I can’t let it consume me, I’m losing my grip” and “Cause I’ve got thoughts so dark that they tear me apart, I know I’m losing control”).
With introspective lyrics, equally as heartfelt performances, and catchy instrumentals and melodies, “Losing Control” is a fantastic new single from Villain Of The Story. "LOSING CONTROL" IS AVAILABLE NOW. LISTEN TO THE TRACK HERE:
