HOLYGOOD has been on my radar since the release of their debut single, “Oh No!,” back in 2019, and after releasing a few more singles to follow it up, they have returned with the release of their debut EP, titled “Killing Giants.”
The EP starts off with its introductory track, “Bath Salts,” which beings with catchy melodies before the drums and guitars help build up the verses. The electronics and synths used throughout the song showcase the band’s poppier influences, and the bridge combines those with darker instrumentals (including a catchy guitar solo) before the song fades out. “Moving Mountains” begins with an acoustic guitar, and it starts out on a softer note vocally as well, but those vocals get louder during the choruses and the bridge, where they deliver a soulful performance. The title track “Killing Giants” concludes the EP, and the vocal performance in the beginning quickly drew me in. The percussion builds up the song and accompanies the combination of singing and rapping that the vocals deliver in preparation for the huge, anthemic choruses that contain harder-hitting instrumentals and soaring vocals. The drums and lead guitar solo bring a ton of energy during the bridge as they drive that section before the final chorus comes in and wraps this release up.
HOLYGOOD has made a triumphant return with “Killing Giants,” a strong debut EP that showcases the variety of influences within their sound. LISTEN TO THE LATEST SINGLE, "moving mountains," here:
