Like Pacific have released their sophomore full-length record, titled “In Spite Of Me.” Favorite Tracks: In Spite Of Me, Steadily, The Spring
I really enjoyed quite a bit of this band’s debut, so I was excited to hear some more music from them. I was curious to see if this band would stick to the sound they had on their first record or change things up a bit. The album opens up with the title track, which kicks it off in the best possible way. The hook and chorus are so memorable, and the song shows that the aggression is still a staple in the band’s sound. “Sedatives” and “Had It Coming” follow suit with some insanely fast rhythms and harsher vocals. While a lot of the vocals on “The Spring” lean more towards the aggressive side, they also bring some undeniably catchy melodies to the table - in fact, this song may just be one of the catchiest ones that this record has to offer. “Occupy Your Skin” is a bit darker as far as the instrumentation goes, and there are some more shouted vocals added in to match that and create that mood for the song. “Self-Defeated” is a song that reminds me a little bit of the songs on the band’s debut. As well as that, it has another memorable chorus. “Steadily” is another track with plenty of energy, and instantly became a favorite of mine when I first heard it. “Admittance” is a pretty solid song and it’s quite catchy as well, but aside from that, there’s not too much I can pinpoint about it. “Consider Me” is another song that’s reminiscent of the band’s earlier work, but the time signature changes throughout the song make it stand out quite a bit. “Something Missing” is the track that closes out this record, and it’s a great choice for that. It’s a more melodic track, although some shouted vocals are added into the mix as well, and the composition all throughout this song is so interesting. Overall, I thought this record was pretty good. It definitely has elements (more notable, the aggressive ones) that were shown on the band’s debut, but shows the band changing things up a bit and adding a bit of variety, especially as far as the songwriting goes, and as a whole, I think it’s a solid pop punk release.
