Rumours caught my attention recently after dropping the fantastic title track from their upcoming EP, “If Only You Could Feel Something Too,” and upon hearing it, I couldn’t wait to see what they had in store on the rest of the EP.
The EP begins with that aforementioned single and title track, “If Only You Could Feel Something Too.” Darker instrumentation opens the hard-hitting intro, and both the vocals and instrumentals deliver consistently catchy composition leading up to the choruses. While the song has a much more melodic start, the second verse, pre-chorus, and bridge showcase the band’s heavier tendencies in preparation for the song’s breakdown, where the tempo slows down for a bit before the chorus returns for the final time. “The Same Kind” opens on a darker note as well, followed by a more aggressive first verse, and the guitars join in again shortly after to build up the pre-chorus to the song’s more melodic chorus and second verse. Much like the previous track, this one also has a good balance of the more melodic and aggressive influences in the band’s sound.
“Incredulous” leans towards the more aggressive side, starting early on with the hints of metalcore and nu-metal influences in the intro, as well as the bridge and breakdown later on, all of which surround yet another huge chorus. “Neurosis” is up next, and this one slows things down a bit. It’s much more melodic both in regards to the vocals and instrumentals (at least at, and brings a nice change of pace to the record. Second to last is the first single, “MANIA,” which instantly brings catchy riffs and melodies in the intro and first verse. There are some heavier moments to be found later on through the darker riffs and harsher vocals that are incorporated before the final chorus comes in. “Live Forever (Paralysis Pt. 2)” concludes the EP, and begins with acoustic guitar and softer vocals that lead up to the huge chorus, which contains a stellar performance. The second verse brings some heavier vocals and instrumentals to the table, and the anthemic bridge brings some captivating performances all around. "If Only You Could Feel Something Too" contains six impressive alternative rock anthems, and as a whole, it's a very strong debut EP from Rumours. "if only you could feel something too" will be released this friday, march 19th. listen to the latest single "neurosis" here:
