REVIEWS
WRITTEN BY: MEGWidmore have released their debut EP, titled “Hostile.” Introductory track “Welcome” sets the mood for this EP, foreshadowing what the listener can expect from the remaining tracks, at least on the darker and more aggressive side of things. The vocal style and overall vocal performance shows so much emotion and quickly shows the way that the band blends different genres into their music. Following that is “The End,” with instantly energetic instrumentals and very aggressive vocals that match perfectly. The clean vocals deliver such catchy melodies and put on a very impressive performance as always (especially the high notes toward the end of the track), and both vocalists once again put so much emotion into those performances. Interlude “-“ is very similar to the introductory track, aside from the fact that it’s purely instrumental. Much like the opener, it still shows that dark, haunting tone found on a lot of this record, and transitions very well into the track that follows it, lead single “Has Been.” This song also has plenty of energy, and brings a good mix of clean and unclean vocals, showing off the talent that both vocalists of this band have. Later on, the song switches things up for a bit, adding in a more ambient section before the hard hitting bridge comes in, providing powerful performances vocally and instrumentally. Finishing out the EP is the very strong closing track “Here All Along.” The song is pretty upbeat (although not as much as others), with the instrumentals leading an interesting rhythm, The screamed vocals put on a captivating performance, and the clean vocals deliver one of the best melodic performances on this entire EP, and it only gets better during the massive and very memorable chorus. The melodic hardcore tinged vocals show so much emotion before the song finishes, ending the EP on a very powerful note. Widmore have impressed me once again with their debut EP. Between how well it shows off their sound and the amount of emotion it shows from start to finish, it was definitely worth the wait. “HOSTILE” will be released this friday, june 28th, 2019.
