After a handful of EPs over the years, Half Hearted have released their self-titled debut full-length album.
A couple moments on this album embrace the softer and more melodic side of the band’s sound - “Liar” and “Trading Time,” where the softer instrumentals allow the vocals to show off and bring some really good melodies that are as catchy as the instrumentals. However, a few other songs mix that softer and more melodic side with some harder hitting instrumentals, such as the extremely catchy “The Way We Fight,” which really shows off the vocals, “Loser’s Game,” which brings some impressive guitars, and the well-written single “One Drink,” which begins with softer verses before the bigger chorus kicks in, providing passionate performances from the harder drums and guitars, as well as the vocals.
These aren’t the only upbeat tracks to be found on “Half Hearted." “Tell Me” and the pop-tinged “Thinkin’ About You” bring huge choruses with some really catchy guitars and one of the best vocal performances on the album, and “Breathing Pattern,” a personal favorite of mine, brings some extremely impressive performances, from the riffs in the intro and memorable chorus to the powerful vocals in the second verse and the catchy and impressive guitar solo later on. “Vicious Cycle” and “Two Of Us” are a bit darker, “Burn Me To Watch The Glow” brings an intriguing pre-chorus that leads up to another huge chorus with amazing melodies and emotional vocals, and the opening track “I’m In Danger” is captivating from start to finish, from the vocals to the catchy instrumentation. “Half Hearted” is filled with many impressive and memorable performances and makes a very strong debut album.
