Northshore are about to release their sophomore EP, titled “For What It’s Worth.” After hearing Northshore’s debut EP, “Alternative Futures,” I quickly became a fan of the music. soon as this EP was announced, it immediately became one of my most anticipated releases of early 2019, and it certainly did not disappoint in the slightest. The EP kicks off in the strongest possible way with the powerful opener “Be Heard.” Not only do the upbeat instrumentals show plenty of passion, but the vocals do as well all throughout this song, and the performance on this track is one of the best I’ve ever heard from the band. The vocals in the pre-chorus especially really grab your attention, leading up to one of many catchy choruses on this EP. These performances do a perfect job of portraying the emotion in the lyrics and putting that emotion across in the performance. Following that is “Dependence,” which is pretty upbeat as well. The intro provides catchy guitar riffs, accompanied by impressive drumming that helps drive the track and really stands out. The vocals on here shine a lot in the bridge, building up to one huge final chorus. Closing out the first half of this EP is the second single “Shedding Skin,” which is a bit slower than the first two tracks but is just as good. It also features Christina Rotondo as a guest vocalist, and her performance towards the end of the song fits perfectly. Opening up the second half is the lead single and title track, “For What It’s Worth.” The song was a great choice for both of those, full of energetic instrumentals and undeniably catchy melodies delivered through even more incredible performances. Second to last is “Summer,” one that I feel is a major standout on the EP as far as style and sound go. The guitars on here are a lot more ambient and the instrumentals overall are generally softer, letting the vocals shine a lot more. Last, but certainly not least, is “Conspiracy.” The intro on here foreshadows that the rest of the song will be as big of a closer as “Be Heard” was an opener, and that proves to be true. The song is filled with fantastic melodies, and in regards to performances, the bass really shows off on this track as well. I’ve said in the past that this band has continuously impressed me with everything they do, and this EP is no different. “For What It’s Worth” is an incredible sophomore EP combining every element of Northshore’s sound that makes them stand out so much. “FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH” IS OUT THIS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15th.
