WRITTEN BY: ALYSSAHeart Attack Man are about to release their sophomore full-length album, titled "Fake Blood." These tracks have a dark and dramatic undertone to them, incorporating much of the band’s past work as well as new influences and themes. While many of the songs carry an upbeat musical accompaniment, the lyrics flow a lot deeper and cut hard, nothing is softened up for this album - it’s totally raw and real and I love that about it. This is the bands’ sophomore album, and along with various EPs, this album definitely teases aspects of many genres, alt, hardcore, indie, punk, throughout various songs. However, while there is a large mix of musical genres incorporated into it, the band also manages to effectively sustain a specific sound throughout all of their music, so fans of past work will more than likely be very into this, too. Two tracks were released as singles prior to this album release, and they definitely give off the overall vibe of the album highly successfully. The title track “Fake Blood” was the first single to be released and has a catchy tune along with the repeated lyric ‘fake blood is flowing through your veins’ - a powerful statement wallowing in deep emotion, although sung to a cheerful tune, really quite profound, much alike the majority of this album, 100% in a positive rather than repetitive sense. A line that particularly stands out to me throughout the course of the whole LP is ‘I don’t owe you anything’, from “Rats In A Bucket”, along with the strong beat and edgy riff throughout this song this lyric especially is very powerful and will be engrained in your head for days (in a good way), you’ll want to keep coming back to this song before it's even finished playing! Changing it up a bit we come to “Moths In A Lampshade”, a much calmer song musically, but if you dig into the lyrics, they are very intriguing, meaningful, and mysterious almost; there are many different ways that you could analyse them and each listener will probably interpret them in a different way, depending on their emotional circumstances at the present time. The final track “The Choking Game” is also fairly reserved in terms of how heavy the music is, it could almost send you into a trance, it all sounds so beautifully surreal, but once again, the words hit hard and I feel that the general music is purposely softer, (but nonetheless still very effective of its own accord), so that the lyrics are as exaggerated as possible. Political themes are covered throughout this LP, such as in “Crisis Actor”, listening to this angry, intense song really makes you think about the world and the state of politics right now, the heaviness of the music is almost like a metaphor for rebellion and sheer fury at certain political characters and organisations. Personally, "Low Hanging Fruit" is my favourite track from this release (currently), I adore the punchy riff and beat combined with the heavy vocal part, I also very much enjoy the short breakdown part towards the end. It’s a perfect song to rock out to, and it’ll definitely have the crowd going wild when played live. This album has done exactly what I expected it to and absolutely blown me away in the best way possible - definitely a very strong contender for my album of the year so far! "FAKE BLOOD" WILL BE RELEASED THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 19TH, 2019, VIA TRIPLE CROWN RECORDS. LISTEN TO THE LATEST SINGLE "OUT FOR BLOOD" HERE:
