WRITTEN BY: MEGAnxious Hands are about to release their debut EP, titled “Dissociate.” The EP opens up with “Envy,” which may be the heaviest track on the EP. Chugging guitars drive the rhythm as the harsher vocals take the spotlight, leading up to the song’s melodic chorus, providing pretty catchy melodies. The same can be said about the chorus in the following track, lead single “Red Flags,” and the chorus on there is arguably one of the best on the EP. The song was a perfect choice for the lead single, combining that chorus with aggressive vocals and instrumentals that stand out even more than on the last track, bringing a perfect balance of heavier and more melodic elements. “Drifter” actually starts off softer and more melodic for a change, and while the aggression is definitely still there, the screamed vocals show quite a bit of emotion and the overall unclean vocal performance really shows the melodic hardcore influences of the band’s sound. Second to last on this EP is its title track, “Dissociate,” a major standout on the EP. I really enjoyed a lot of the lyrics on here, the screamed vocals stand out a lot more, the clean vocals deliver an incredible performance in the memorable chorus, and the song as a whole brings a ton of energy. Concluding the EP is “Farewell,” which combines all the elements and influences shown throughout the previous four tracks, wrapping up the release very well. The song starts out on a much slower note compared to the others, beginning with a spoken word performance before the heavier instrumentals and vocals come in. The vocals show a lot of emotion on this one too, especially right before the breakdown, which is one of the best on the whole EP. It’s safe to say that “Dissociate” makes a very strong debut for Anxious Hands. It shows off the band’s interesting sound, which takes influence from various different subgenres of hardcore and works very well. The EP only gets better and better with each track on it, and makes an impressive EP overall. “DISSOCIATE” WILL BE RELEASED ON MARCH 29th, 2019. LISTEN TO THE LEAD SINGLE HERE:
