On February 7th, Los Angeles based punk group Spanish Love Songs released their newest album, "Brave Faces, Everyone."
The album opens up with “Routine Pain.” I absolutely love how the band opens up the album with a song that touches upon mental health and is just so raw. “Self Destruction” shows that no matter how negative you’re feeling, it will get better- “it won’t be this bleak forever.” Next up is “Generation Loss.” which explains how life as an adult can really take a toll on you mentally, and is also a reminder to take time to listen to your friends and not just brush off their complaints. “Kick” discusses the effects of someone growing up with a parent who does drugs and falling into a similar routine. Continuing onto “Beach Front Property,” touches about the negativity with society, with lyrics such as like “Ducking in my seat cause someone brought a bag into the movie theater” and “Not like any of us feel the shame, count on one hand all the good we’ve done” really showing the sad truth of reality.
Moving into the second half of the album, the next track is “Losers,” an upbeat track that explains the struggle of being low on money and just trying to get by as best as you can. “Optimism” is really the best title for this next song, as it discusses still trying to keep a smile even when life has you completely down. “Losers, Pt. 2” is a continuation of the financial issues in “Losers,” and this song is probably my favorite of the whole album. “Dolores” is a very emotional track about the tragedy of school shootings and how often they really are. However, no action is ever done, and people just say “They’re praying for you” thinking that’s enough. The last song is the album title “Brave Faces, Everyone,” and I really like how they tied in all the songs of the album and gives a message like “Hey, I know the world is on fire, but everything will be okay, have a brave face.” “Brave Faces, Everyone” is very important album that really makes you listen, as it’s a wake up call of reality. "BRAVE FACES, EVERYONE" IS AVAILABLE NOW. LISTEN TO THE ALBUM HERE:
