Following the release of “Vacation” back in 2017, Seaway has released their fourth full-length, titled “Big Vibe.”
Pop-punk has been (and still seemingly is) one of the primary genres that the band incorporates into their sound, and their pop-punk roots are very evident on this album, even more so on certain tracks compared to others. The lead single and title track “Big Vibe” is an anthem that’s perfect for driving in the car with the windows rolled down, with upbeat instrumentals and an irresistible chorus that you’ll want to sing along to. “Still Blue” is very similar, and delivers tons of energy leading up to its harder-hitting chorus, which is where these influences really shine through. “Peach” is a little bit more midtempo than some of these other tracks, and the instrumentals really stand out as the song prepares for its huge chorus, where the vocals shine just as much, and the closing track “Sick Puppy” shows off these influences perfectly in its chorus as well through some very strong vocal and instrumental performances.
On this album, the band is experimenting with some other influences, and quite a few tracks on here really show the “power-pop” and 80s influences that the band is experimenting with - particularly the energetic “Pathetic,” as it leads up to its very memorable chorus, the equally as catchy “If You Let Me,” the softer and more midtempo second single “Wild Things,” and “Wicked,” which has some darker chords that make the composition stand out from what the band has done in the past. The remaining tracks blend all of these genres together (and do so very well). The opening track “Brain In A Jar” showcases this right away and shows listeners what they can expect from the overall sound of this album. “Mrs. David” has some of the catchiest melodies and riffs on the entire record, and the instrumentals on this track and “Sweet Sugar” showcase a great combination of both the pop-rock and pop-punk influences. The title of this record is a perfect description of the eleven songs that it contains. “Big Vibe” is filled with so many songs that are a lot of fun to listen to and make me want to come back for repeated listens. "BIG VIBE" IS AVAILABLE NOW. LISTEN TO THE ALBUM HERE:
