Gardenside have released their sophomore EP, titled “Everything & Anything.” I listened to the lead single from this EP when it dropped, and I was intrigued by it, wondering what else the band would do with the rest of these songs.
The EP starts off with the lead single “My Bad,” with a hook that instantly draws you in and some darker instrumentation (mainly the guitars) that make the song stand out quite a bit amongst the rest. I found the drums on this track to be impressive, and I felt the same way about the drumming on the second track, “Anniversary.” The instrumentation in general just helps bring so much energy to the song, and the chorus on here is probably my favorite on the EP. Second single “Bear On” opens up the other half of the EP, and it’s one that I feel stands out a lot from the rest of these tracks. It’s a bit slower and also a bit softer (especially in the vocal department), but still has the catchy melodies and slightly darker tone that a lot of the other tracks on here also have. “Door Step” is easily one of the catchiest tracks on here, and the upbeat bass and drums make it a lot more energetic than the track prior. “Mess Me Around” is the final track on this EP, and one that I had mixed feelings about. I think the melodies and vocals are pretty good and fit with the simple guitar parts. It’s not a bad track by any means, but it just didn’t really stand out to me as much as others on this EP did. Overall, I liked this EP. I love the darker elements in this band’s sound that show their interesting approach to the pop punk and alternative rock genres.
