Just over a year ago, Takers Leavers started a series of singles with the release of “ACT 1: Quiet/Chaos.” Now, the band has returned to follow that up with its sequel, titled “ACT 2: Brighter/Darker.”
Cleaner guitars open the song up, followed by some softer vocals that match the more laid-back instrumentation well. Shortly thereafter, the drums kick in, making the track more upbeat as it leads up to its much bigger chorus, where the instrumentation gets much louder and the vocals become a bit more aggressive. The contrast between the verses and sections like the choruses and the bridge later on (which contains emotive vocal and instrumental performances) brings some great dynamics to the song, which makes it more interesting to listen to.
“ACT 2: Brighter/Darker” is comprised of intriguing performances and composition, all of which continue to showcase the various elements of rock, emo, and post-hardcore in the band’s overall sound (much like “ACT 1” did), and the track will leave listeners eager to hear what the next act has in store.
