REVIEWS
Arlington have released their debut album, titled “A Walk Through Jackson County.”
Ireally liked some of the singles on this record and found the band’s alternative rock sound to be pretty unique, so I decided to give the rest of the record a listen and found myself pretty impressed with it.
The record begins with the very memorable opener “Don’t Mind,” which seems to show more indie rock and alternative rock influences through the instrumentals and is a pretty upbeat track. On “Ride Out,” I can hear some influences of older rock music not only in the vocal performance and the interesting melodies delivered through it, but also in the instrumentals, mainly the guitar riff that repeats throughout most of the track. “Hollow Moon” starts out a bit slower and softer, until the harder instrumentals come in almost out of nowhere and the vocals get louder, standing out even more than they already did. The melodies are memorable on here too, and the vocal performance really seems to show the singer’s skills as a performer. There’s also some great guitar work on here, especially during the impressive solo. Third up is “Mud,” the lead single from this album and the band’s debut single. The guitars on here also show some older rock influences, the drums and bass really stand out, and the vocalw show the more charismatic style that the singer has when performing. “Motion” is a lot slower compared to the previous few tracks on this record. There are some good guitars on this track, and the chorus on here is another catchy and memorable one. “Damn Shame” immediately picks the pace back up with the upbeat drums that drive the rhythm of it. Like in the opening track, there are some cleaner guitars incorporated, and the slightly softer and more ambient tone fits very well on this track. “Native Tongue” is another energetic track, bringing even more darker composition, especially through the vocal melodies, and some fantastic bass and guitar parts. “Better Men Than Me” seemto slow things down a bit once again, but that doesn’t stop it from being a hard hitting track by any means. There are some pretty good melodies on here, the vocal performance really stand out, and there’s a great guitar solo right before the final chorus that blew me away. “Halo” is another slower track that seems to give off more of a chill and relaxing vibe, and the more simplistic instrumentals (mainly the ambient guitars) fit perfectly with the sound of this track. “Children” brings the energy back one more time with some very impressive instrumentation (mainly the drums) and the melodies on here are pretty dark as well. The final track on here is “What They Say,” and while it starts out a bit slower, it quickly gets a bit more upbeat as the guitars, bass and drums all come together and provide a great rhythm that drives the song. Overall, I really liked this record. I like how the band incorporate various different influences of alternative rock and similar subgenres, and fuse those influences together well.
