Project Redshift are a rock band from the UK. Their debut single, titled “Sanity Catches,” came out on September 29th, 2017. The intro gives each instrument a chance to shine and shows off the talent each of these instrumentalists have. As far as the vocals go, the vocalist of this band puts on a great performance throughout this song and shows off how strong his voice is very well, especially in the second verse. The lyrics of this song interested me as well, especially in the chorus. Overall, I enjoy this song and think it is a solid debut single from this band.

Vans Warped Tour has begun! Here are some bands from each stage that I recommend seeing on Warped Tour if you get the chance. Along with each band's name, I added their genre, a few songs by them to check out, and what dates they're playing so you can see if they're playing the date you're going to. I made a Spotify playlist of all these songs, which you can listen to here.

They've definitely changed their sound over the years and have evolved with each album. I personally liked their 2015 record “Future Hearts” and liked the direction they were going in, even though I like all their previous material as well. They're definitely evolving their sound and changing it a bit more with the singles they've released so far for their upcoming record “Last Young Renegade.” The most recent single out of these is called “Life Of The Party.” Honestly, this is my favorite out of these three singles. They add more band elements to the song and it honestly sounds more of a mix of pop and rock rather than leaning towards one side or the other. I feel like this song stands out from the other two singles a bit and it makes me a bit more excited for “Last Young Renegade.”
September Stories are a spoken word act from Ohio signed to InVogue Records. Their new single, titled "Mess," was released on January 20th, 2017. Something that I noticed about this song as a whole is it's definitely different from their previous material. The instrumentation in the beginning is louder and heavier rather than softer, and the vocalist sings in the chorus in between the spoken word verses. Throughout the entire song, you can hear the emotion in his voice whether he's speaking or singing. The lyrics in this song are amazing, and I personally think the bridge has the lyrics that people can connect to the most: "Life's not always just, and I know that it hasn't been fair to you as of recent, but you have to believe it'll be okay." This song seems to be the beginning of a new chapter for September Stories, and I can't wait to find out what happens next. Slaves are a rock band from Sacramento, California signed to Artery Recordings. They released a new single, titled "I'd Rather See Your Star Explode," on January 20th, 2017. From the beginning, I really enjoyed this song and all that it has to offer. The guitar in the beginning instantly drew me in and I love all the lyrics in this song from start to finish. Jonny Craig has an incredible and unique voice and definitely has a wide vocal range, which is shown off a lot all throughout the track. This is definitely more evident in the chorus and the bridge, where he hits a lot of different notes but mainly sings a bit higher than in other parts of the song. Overall I really enjoyed a lot of things about this track and it left me wanting more.
It's been quite a year for music. Many bands put out albums and EPs, bands broke up, bands made comebacks, and new bands put out their debuts to show what they had to offer. With all the good music that came out this year, it's hard to narrow it down in a list and pinpoint your favorites, but somehow I managed to do it. I made a list of my top ten albums from this year (along with a few honorable mentions) Keep in mind this list has MY personal favorites. This is my opinion, not yours. There's a chance you have different favorite albums and that's totally fine. With all of that being said, here are my personal ten favorite albums of 2016. 10. Cover Your Tracks - "Fever Dream" Okay, I'm going to be honest here. I slept on this record so much when it very first came out, but once I listened to it, I was blown away. I love the perfect blend of clean and unclean vocals and the incredible instrumentation that make me fall in love with the songs all over again with each listen. The crazy guitar riffs, bass solos and fast paced drums can get a crowd off their feet. Favorite Tracks: Spin The Bottle, Cages, Good Enough 9. Out Came The Wolves - "Strange Fate" I listened to the stream of the record before it came out. I assumed this record was going to be really good and my assumptions turned out to be right. This record has so much variety while still staying in the post-hardcore/rock genre. There's heavier songs, melodic rock anthems, and everything in between. Seems like there's something for everyone who listens to this type of music. Favorite Tracks: 96, Bleed, Baby Blue 8. Too Close To Touch - "Haven't Been Myself" Too Close To Touch did an amazing job with their first record. It was full of energetic instrumentals, emotional lyrics and at some times, vocal performances that you want to scream along with. With their sophomore release, they kicked the emotion up a notch. The poignant lyrics and loud instrumentals are so well put together and all parts of the album show five times every bit of emotion that was let out when making this album. Favorite Tracks: Sympathy, Inside Voices, Eieley. 7. Waterparks - "Double Dare" I'll admit I was slightly late to the hype train for this band. I enjoyed some of their earlier songs, but once this album came around, I was hooked. These guys blended electronic elements with pop and rock all together so well and their unique sound is definitely going to make them stand out in this new wave of pop punk bands. Favorite Tracks: Hawaii (Stay Awake), Gloom Boys, Dizzy 6. Tonight Alive - "Limitless" Tonight Alive took a step away from their comfort zone on this record. Yes, there are a few tracks that still are gripping onto their pop rock roots, but for the most part, the genre and the sound of the record is different from their previous works, and that's one of the reasons I like this album so much. They took a huge risk with their music and it turned out well. This record is full of messages of inspiration and positivity, especially in songs like Power Of One and To Be Free. Need a pick-me-up? This record is for you. Favorite Tracks: To Be Free, Power Of One, Oxygen 5. Set It Off - "Upside Down" This record was destined to be different from their previous works, especially coming off of the success and positive reactions to the variety of 2014's Duality. Upside Down has songs you just want to sing along to while rolling the windows down, songs you want to dance to, and so many emotions portrayed all throughout it. Upside Down shows a new side of Set It Off and I think music lovers of many genres might just like it. Favorite Tracks: Life Afraid, Tug Of War, Crutch 4. I Prevail - "Lifelines" This was one of my most anticipated albums of 2016, ever since I heard the lead single Scars and got into this band. This album, front to back, impressed me from the first time I heard it and definitely exceeded my expectations of it being good. Needless to say, it has been on repeat and I've listened to it pretty much every day since it was released. With the heavy instrumentals, relatable lyrics, and the cycle of clean and unclean vocals, Lifelines contains fourteen post-hardcore anthems that'll have you turning up the volume. Favorite Tracks: Lifelines, Alone, One More Time 3. With Confidence - "Better Weather" For being one of the newer bands in the pop punk scene, With Confidence have seemed to had quite the ride this year. Their debut album shows messages of hope inside the upbeat and at some times angry pop punk anthems that will make all these songs and this band in general be remembered. Favorite Tracks: Voldemort, Gravity, Keeper 2. From Ashes To New - "Day One" Where do I start? This album's lyrics are straightforward and to the point portraying the emotions shown in many ways throughout the songs. From Ashes To New shows off a mix of rap, hard rock and just a little bit of screaming to create a solid rock record that I'll definitely be listening to for awhile. Favorite Tracks: Through It All, Farther From Home, Every Second Before I say my Album Of The Year, here are my honorable mentions: HM 1: Blink 182 - "California" Some people may be shocked to see this on the list as an honorable mention. This was the main album (besides their self titled record) that got me into this band in the first place. All of the songs on this record are still songs I listen to a lot. I think some of these songs are their best songs lyrically, and it's a bit obvious Blink are changing a little bit with their lyrical style, adding in some darker lyrics and overall just darker themes for the most part, while still having those upbeat, fast paced punk rock songs that people know them for. Favorite Tracks: Cynical, No Future, California HM 2: Sylar - "Help!" There was definitely a lot of hype behind Help! but I still don't think it has the recognition it deserves. This album shows Sylar starting to shy away from what they've done in past works by adding some more clean vocals in songs such as Dark Daze, Doubting Out and Maintain Closure, but also adding some rap/hip-hop in songs like Assume and, of course, staying true to their roots by adding metalcore in songs like Me Myself & I and the title track, Help! Sylar are slowly taking over and are added to the new wave of post-hardcore and nu-metal bands coming into the scene, and who knows what they're going to bring on their next release? Favorite Tracks: Help!, Dark Daze, Doubting Out HM 3: Demon In Me - "Here's Your Way Out" Here's Your Way Out has eleven emotional alternative rock tunes to keep your attention. From the upbeat and angsty singles Enough's Enough and Sink Or Swim, to the catchy mid tempo tracks Cold Sweat and Make It Hurt, to slow but powerful ballads such as Bruised Hands and Black and White, this album is a great release that I think a lot of rock fans alike would enjoy. Favorite Tracks: Cold Sweat, Black And White, Sink Or Swim The moment you've been waiting for. My album of the year is... *drum roll*
Favorite Tracks: Stranger, Orchid, Inhale In Confidence is a rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. Their debut single is titled 152 and was released on September 16th, 2016 as the lead single from their upcoming EP Of Wolves And Lambs, out October 28th.This track has my attention from beginning to end and has so many things that make it such a great song. The lyrics are only part of the reason I love this song so much. I probably couldn’t pick a favorite lyric from the line, but if I had to, I would say these lyrics from the ending: “I take meaning in all the things I said, ‘cause I get so lost inside my head. When my back’s on the wall, I will try my hand at the very last thing that I never said. I’m a fake, I’m a liar, I’m a means of desire. I can’t take my own skin, so drag me under and break me again.” The instrumentation of this song grabbed my attention instantly from Jake’s bass solo in the beginning to Micah's drumming and Taylor’s guitar part in the chorus. Also in the ending, you can hear a bass solo in the background from Jake along with how the tone in his voice changes a little bit and becomes a bit heavier as this portion of the song continues. I absolutely love this song and to say I’m curious and excited for what the rest of their EP is like would be an absolute understatement.
