COAST TO COAST TALK LATEST EP
Following their signing to Fox Records and the success of their 2017 release “The Length Of A Smile,” Coast To Coast have returned with their third EP, “The World Doesn’t Work.”
“I came up with the title once we had finished writing all the songs; I felt it perfectly summed up the running feeling of the record,” vocalist Keiran Hyland says about the EP’s interesting title, “The statement can be applied to each song on the record and is a common theme throughout. The world doesn’t work is the result of me coming to terms with the emotions and feelings I’ve experienced in the last couple of years. I’ve learnt a lot about how I, myself, and my mind work, and also how the world doesn’t work.”
Wondering what exactly the record is about? “A few common themes run throughout the record. Most songs interlink nicely which is something we are proud of. Common themes include relationships with my family and the struggles of mental health, both my own and my family’s struggles. A lot of the tracks relate to my relationship with my father.” Though it’s only been around a year and a half since the band’s last release, it still took quite a while to finish this one. “The process was a difficult and long one. We struggled at first but once we had a vision for the record, it sort of fell into place,” Keiran says about making the EP, “I used a spreadsheet to fit the lyrics into themes as I tend to jot down all my thoughts and then come back to them at a later date. We wrote the guitars and drums and then I was sent the demos to add vocals over.” “WE ARE SUPER PROUD OF THIS RECORD AND WANT TO SHARE IT WITH AS MANY PEOPLE, IN AS MANY PLACES AS POSSIBLE.”
Out of the six songs on this release, two of them were released as singles (“Be Kind” and “The Sun Is Dim”).
“We felt all of the songs on the EP were strong contenders for the singles but “Be Kind” stood out for it bouncy and catchy hooks. “The Sun Is Dim” is probably the most personal song on the record, so I’m really glad we got to push that one as a single,” Keiran says about why those two songs in particular were chosen as the lead singles. As well as that, he believes that those two singles are “just the perfect way to end a show.” With the release of “The World Doesn’t Work,” Coast To Coast are aiming to bring the new material to a larger audience, and playing shows in support of the EP could definitely help them achieve that. “Expect a lot more shows. We are super proud of this record and want to share it with as many people, in as many places as possible,” Keiran says regarding what fans can expect from the group going forward, “We would love to push towards becoming a breakthrough band, playing a lot more shows to bigger audiences. So far we have had some great feedback so the future is looking positive.” With another release in their discography, helping get their name out to more and more people and getting a lot of recognition and positive feedback, it definitely seems like Coast To Coast have a bright future ahead.
